If any of these statements are true, Occupational Therapy may be helpful:

  • Attention- unable to stay on task/concentrate for appropriate lengths of time
  • Body Awareness/Body Scheme- has difficulty perceiving where the body is in space and how to use it to interact with the environment
  • Eating- has poor postural control and/or difficulty holding and using eating utensils
  • Fine Motor (small muscle groups)- hand/finger dexterity and/or handwriting is poor
  • Gross Motor (large muscle groups) - has difficulty sitting, crawling, walking, playing
  • Hyperactivity- exhibits impulsive behavior, is constantly on-the-go
  • Self Care Skills- has difficulty dressing self, taking care of personal hygiene, grooming or eating
  • Social/Emotional- has poor play skills, reduced self esteem and limited tolerance for frustration
  • Sensory Processing- responds inappropriately to sounds, visual stimuli, tastes, being touched or touching
  • Visual Perceptual Skills- has difficulty judging distance between objects or between self and objects, or seeing objects as keeping their shape regardless of the position from which they are viewed

If any of these statements are true, Speech Therapy may be helpful:

  • By age 2, is not talking at all
  • After age 3, speech is difficult to understand
  • At 7 years old and older, consistently says any speech sound incorrectly
  • At any age is embarrassed by their speech or is unable to talk because of a medical condition such as cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, Downs Syndrome, etc.
  • Listening/following directions, understanding humor, and/or holding their own in a conversation is not age-appropriate
  • As a speaker, does not have the knowledge of when to say what to whom, and how much to say
  • Reading/writing is below age/grade level expectations
  • Has aversions to eating and eats a limited variety/quantity of foods, is unable to eat or chew food that others their age eat, often coughs/chokes while eating or drinking
